About the university
Ukhta State Technical University (USTU) is a higher educational institution located in Ukhta, an industrial center of Komi republic, in the Arctic Zone of Russia. It is the basic university for the training of engineers for oil and gas companies, the full name is the Federal State Budget Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "Ukhta State Technical University". USTU has 3 faculties (Faculty of Petroleum, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Economics, Management and Information Technologies) and two branches: in Vorkuta and Usinsk. More than 8 thousand students study at the university. As for foreign students, we have more than 230 students from 17 countries. Academic, research and support staff includes 1050 people: 50 professors, teachers and researchers work in institutes and various departments, among them 53 doctors of sciences, 213 candidates of sciences and associate professors. The University has close ties with all gas and oil producing enterprises of the Komi Republic and also with mining, timber, and building industries of Russia («Gazprom», «Transneft», «Rosneft», «Lukoil»). As for student life, we have active youth taking part in university self-government and coteries (sport, dancing, singing, theatre etc.), visiting eucational Geological Museum named after O.S. Kochetkova, Museum of the History of USTU.

International students friendly
Our university does not have educational programme in English, but we provide our students a prepapratory course (1 year). There you will learn Russian and some basic technical subjects in Russian (physics, maths and IT). So, our preparatory course costs 92000 rubles per year. The 1st semester students learn everyday life Russian, then students learn technical Russian and other subjects. After 1 year you have en exam. If you pass it successfully, you start the main educational course.
Student visa
Foreign students from Far-abroad countries must have a visa. It is a single entry visa on 90 days. To get the official invitation from Ministry of Internal Affairs you should send us scans of documents: passport and visa-application. Preparation of invitation takes 21-30 days. After it's getting you should send it to your ambassy for getting visa. After your coming Ukhta you should change it. International department carry out this activity, that's why you file the visa-application here.
Accommodation
Our university provide all foreign students with housing in a comfortable dormitory. It costs 1200 rubles per a month. International department carries out the migration control. In a case if you want to live in a private flat, you should negotiate with the owner yourself. The owner carries out the migration control.
Scholarships
