About the university
The Graduate School of Fine Arts , Fine Arts of Algiers , has a history dating back to the middle of the xix th century. School of drawing in 1843 , the establishment took an official character in 1848 when it became Municipal School . It was in 1881 that, benefiting from larger and more spacious premises, the school inaugurated its title of National School of Fine Arts of Algiers . In 1954 , architects Léon Claro and Jacques Darbeda were commissioned to build the current school in the gardens of Gatliff Park (today Zyriab Park). In 1962 , at the independence of the country, The National School of Architecture and Fine Arts was set up to train the Algerian elites in architecture and the visual arts . This dichotomy ended with the transfer of the architects to the EPAU (Polytechnic School of Architecture and Town Planning) in 1970 . The National School of Fine Arts was erected at the Higher School of Fine Arts in 1985 . EPAU (Polytechnic School of Architecture and Urbanism) in 1970 .
