About the university
The National University of the Coast , created by National Law on October 17, 1919, is a daughter of the reformist movement that in 1918 proclaimed to the country and to all of Latin America its ideas of free and open university community, politically autonomous and insuring the state character of the University teaching. The University is the result of arduous efforts of governors and legislators of the province and of the student mobilization and of all Santa Fe citizenship. It was born as a regional university, since it comprised schools and institutes settled in the cities of Santa Fe, Paraná, Rosario and Corrientes. The creation of the University took on new features because it encompassed Faculties and schools located in different cities of the region. In Santa Fe, it was created on the basis of legal studies existing in the University of Santa Fe (since 1889), and based on the Industrial School (created in 1909). The first Faculties were Law and Industrial and Agricultural Chemistry. The building of the Rectorate, whose construction ended in 1935, has transcended by the events that took place there. Among them, it should be noted that the Paraninfo room was the seat of the National Constituent Convention, in 1957 and 1994.
