About the university
In 1974, through Law 20,753, the National University of the Center of the Province of Buenos Aires was created and the efforts carried out with the purpose of gathering in a national university the existing university structures in the cities of Tandil , Olavarría and Azul. At the beginning of the decade of the 60's when the process of creating private universities began in our country, the idea of setting up an institute of higher education in which the growing student population could obtain a university education without having That cross the boundaries of your region. On May 30, 1964, the intensive efforts of enthusiastic teachers, professionals, students and neighbors, including the name of Dr. Osvaldo Zarini, culminate with the foundation of the University Institute of Tandil. The academic activity of this private university began in the Faculty of Sciences of Man, to which were added in 1965 the Faculties of Economic Sciences and Physical-Mathematical Sciences and in 1969 the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences. In the same way, and despite the adversity of the times, the so-called Argentine Revolution had closed one of the most fruitful periods in the history of the Argentine university, leaving as a sequel the massive renunciation of teachers and the dismantling of prestigious research centers - another Buenos Aires city was committed by those years to count on university studies. Thus, in 1969, the University Institute of Olavarría, supported economically by the Fortabat Foundation and the municipal government and academically dependent of the National University of the South, controlled the activities of its two Departments, Engineering and Economic Sciences. In 1973, in the framework of the creation of new national universities, the city of Azul also incorporated to its educational offer the superior studies creating the Department of Agronomy dependent of the University Institute of Olavarría. Advised from the academic point of view to the National University of the South, the funds that financed his activities came from a local company.
