About the university
La Universidad Nacional de General Sarmiento (UNGS), creada en el año 1993, decidió adoptar como principio la vinculación entre la formación, la investigación crítica de los problemas que afectan a la sociedad y la búsqueda de alternativas de acción para su superación. El aspecto central de su actividad es contribuir a la democratización de la enseñanza, al acceso al conocimiento por parte de todos los sectores de la sociedad y a la búsqueda de la excelencia académica, asumiendo una estrategia pedagógica centrada en asegurar una sólida formación básica y específica de los estudiantes. Dentro de ese marco, la Universidad ofrece carreras de grado gratuitas, títulos de validez nacional, becas de ayuda económica, becas académicas para formación en docencia, en investigación, en gestión y en servicios a la comunidad, apoyo tutorial personalizado, una biblioteca moderna y eficiente de acceso público y gratuito y espacio académico de calidad. La UNGS está organizada en institutos interdisciplinarios en los que se articula la investigación con la docencia y los servicios a la comunidad. El Instituto de Ciencias (ICI) realiza investigaciones básicas. El Instituto de Industria (IDEI) se ocupa de la problemática de la actividad productiva industrial, con acento en las pequeñas y medianas empresas y en las tramas y cadenas productivas. El Instituto del Conurbano (ICO) realiza investigaciones relativas a la estructura y el desarrollo de los grandes conglomerados urbanos. El Instituto del Desarrollo Humano (IDH) realiza investigaciones en las áreas de educación, comunicación, política y cultura y es el encargado del Curso de Aprestamiento Universitario.
