About the university
On July 20, 1969, eight Protestant and Evangelical churches in the Rio de la Plata area decided to unify the Evangelical Faculty of Theology and the Lutheran Faculty of Theology into one entity under the name of the Evangelical Higher Institute of Theological Studies . The origins of the Evangelical Faculty of Theology date back to 1884 when, in Uruguay, in the town of Colonia Valdense, the Vaudois and Methodist communities of that country began together to prepare their national pastors. Some years later and due to its growth, this work was transferred to Buenos Aires. In 1917 the Church of the Disciples of Christ was added to the Faculty. Thirty years later the Presbyterian Church did. This Faculty of Theology was born and grew as an interdenominational institution, gradually attending to the needs of other churches, such as the Reformed, the Anglican and several free churches. The influence and ecumenical contributions of this house of studies are world-renowned. Among his professors and alumni are many Protestant leaders who played an important role in the birth of the ecumenical movement in Latin America. The same is also true for the initiation and development of Protestant theological literature in Castilian. His journal Cuadernos Teológicos marked the evolution of Christian thought in our continent.
