About the university
The Federal University of Viçosa originated from the Rector of Agriculture and the Veterinary School (Esau), established by Decree 6053 of 30 March 1922, then the President of the State of Minas Gerais, Arthur da Silva Bernardes. Esau was opened on August 28, 1926, by its founder Arthur Bernards, who at that time held the high office of president. In 1927, training activities were started with the installation of primary and secondary courses and the following year, in agriculture degree. In 1932, it was the turn of the Higher Veterinary Course. Since its inception, he was invited by Arthur Bernards, to organize and guide Esau, then Prof. Peter Henry Rolfs, University of Florida, USA. He also came by invitation, the engineer João Carlos Bello of Lisbon, and then worked in urban reform in the city of New Bridge to manage the construction work of the institution.
