Federal University of Amazonas

The Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) is a Brazilian federal public higher education institution, being the largest university in the state of Amazonas and one of the main universities in the Northern Region of Brazil. It is the institution of higher education, with the status of university, older of Brazil, originating from the Free University School of Manáos, founded on January 17, 1909. Even with the extinction of the School, remained the Faculty of Law, which continued the current model of the university center. The fact was recorded in 1995 in the Guinness Book, the book of records. The institution is the only federal public character in Amazonas. The university's headquarters campus is located in Manaus, Brazil's largest urban forest fragment dedicated to a higher education institution, and is the third in the world with 6,700,000 square meters. The Federal University of Amazonas has 109 undergraduate courses in its teaching network, 40 of strictu sensu and dozens in latu sensu, as well as 645 research groups. According to data from 2013, the university had 25 000 students and 2 700 servers that year. According to data from the 2012 ENADE, the university's highest-rated course is Design, with a 5-point concept. Other courses, such as Economic Sciences, Psychology, Journalism and Geography (undergraduate and baccalaureate) were also well evaluated, with a final concept of 4 points.
