About the university
State Drawing School was opened on October 1, 1896 after signing the decree of King Ferdinand. With this act in Sofia has pioneered one of the oldest universities in the country. In the case in the creation of today's Academy stand out the names of prominent policy makers and scientists, among them Konstantin Velichkov, Ivan Markvichka Ivan Shishmanov Anton Mitov and Boris Schatz. In 1911 teaching staff sent a development project in the Ministry of Education, which present the request to the school called the Academy of Arts. Ten years later, in 1921, at the proposal of the Minister of National Education Stoyan Omarchevski State Drawing School was renamed the Art Academy. Today former Drawing School is called the National Academy of Arts, which continues to be the most prestigious Bulgarian institution for training professional artists in the field of fine and applied arts, design, conservation and restoration and the history and theory of art (in educational qualifications " bachelor "," master "and educational and scientific degree" doctor ").
