About the university
Polytechnique Montréal is one of the three largest engineering faculties in Canada and the largest in Quebec . Since its founding in 1873, this French- language teaching institution trains qualified engineers. Its graduates have taken part in most of the major works of Quebec xx th century such as the construction of large dams .The Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, named in reference to the Ecole Polytechnique of Paris , was founded by Urgel-Eugène Archambault to teach technical drawing and other useful arts 2 . At that time the institution was called the École des sciences applied to the arts and industry, and received its official title only three years later when it was recognized by the Government of Quebec. The teaching was then given in a converted house on the Rue Saint-Denis. She then built a building at 228 rue Saint-Denis (today the Athanase-David Pavilion of UQAM ), and settled there in 1905. In 1920, École Polytechnique de Montréal affiliated with the Université de Montréal . It was not in 1958 that the School was established at its present location on the campus of the Université de Montréal on Mount Royal 3 . The original building was enlarged in 1975 and again in 1989 . New pavilions were started in 2003 . The J.-Armand-Bombardier Pavilion, dedicated to nanosciences, was inaugurated in 2004 .
