About the university
The University of Antofagasta forged its history together with the northern part of Chile and its main industry: mining. In 1918, the Saltra industrial school was created to meet the needs of a skilled workforce. Here's how the first steps were taken in developing a technical-professional in the field of Antofagasta higher education. The North kept secrets and riches that required the intervention of a professional university education, which led to the industrial school becoming the school of Salitre and Mines institution that allowed young people of that time to have access to higher education. In the end, it was renamed the School of Mine and was the first step in developing new specialists, and then became part of the State Technical University (UTE).
