About the university
In its sixty-eight years of existence, since its founding as the Pedagogical Institute of Valparaiso in 1948, the university has experienced different periods, some of which were marked by events that affected its institutional march, so it was necessary to reconcile its traditions with the surrounding reality and the demands, Which raised the transfer and development of knowledge. In 1955 he became the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Chile; Subsequently in the field of the humanities (1968); Then the Faculty of Education and Arts, head of Valparaiso University of Chile (1973). In 1981 he took the name of the Higher Academy of Pedagogical Sciences. And, finally, since 1985, this is Playa Ancha University of Education Sciences. 1990 is done on the first choice of this university rector. Currently, the University of Playa Ancha offers courses and programs in various fields of knowledge, complementing its initial training of teachers offering with the arts, humanities, medical sciences, social sciences, science, engineering and management arts. Its regional presence is also projected in the Aconcagua Valley in a modern campus in the city of San Felipe, which has been operating since 1991.
