About the university
The University of Santiago de Chile (Usach or UdeSantiago) is a public university in Chile, belonging to the Consortium of State Universities of Chile and the Council of Rectors of the Chilean Universities. It has its roots in the School of Arts and Crafts, founded in 1848 under the government of Manuel Bulnes. In 1947 was founded as Technical University of the State, with diverse offices throughout the country. Subsequently, in 1981 and as a consequence of the reform of higher education promoted during the Military Regime, the headquarters of the UTE became the current University of Santiago de Chile, with all its activities centered on a single campus of 340,000 m² Located in the commune of Central Station, in Santiago de Chile. It is currently accredited by the National Accreditation Commission (CNA) for a period of 6 years (from a maximum of 7), from October 2014 to October 2020, in all compulsory and optional areas.4Figure 4. ª Chilean university according to the CSIC web ranking, in July 2016, and in the 4th place according to the ranking of AméricaEconomía 2016. It is also among the eleven Chilean universities included in the World Ranking of Universities QS 2016. Among the ten ranked in the Times Higher Education 2016. ranking and among the 22 Chilean universities that appear in the ranking of Scimago Institution Rankings (SIR) 2016, with 8th place at the national level, and 623 World level.
