The University of Valparaíso (acronym: UV) is a public university in Chile, with Rectory and main campus in the city of Valparaiso. It has several university facilities, mainly in the Fifth Region. Founded as such on February 12, 1981 agglutinating the careers of what was until then, the Valparaiso Headquarters of the University of Chile, except those that were given at the Pedagogical Institute of Playa Ancha, which later formed an institution Higher education. Previously the schools and careers given by the State in Valparaiso were dictated by the University of Chile. The oldest of these is the Law degree, founded on May 18, 1911, as a Tax Law Course of Valparaiso. The UV is a member of the Consortium of Universities of the State of Chile, association of the 16 Universities of the State of Chile. He is also a member of the Council of Rectors of the Chilean Universities, an institution that brings together the Rectors of the 25 oldest Universities in Chile and the Regional Universities of Chile, which brings together the regional members of CRUCH.
