Southwest Petroleum University

Southwest Petroleum University is the second China to create the second oil undergraduate institutions, is a central and local to build, to the Sichuan Provincial People's Government management-based colleges and universities. In 2013, the school was selected as "the national central and western colleges and universities based capacity building project", became selected for the project one of the 100 colleges and universities.     In the late 1950s, China's oil industry is quite backward, far can not meet the needs of national construction, causing the party and the country highly concerned about Chairman Mao Zedong's visit to Sichuan Longchang gas mine, the CPC Central Committee General Secretary Deng Xiaoping personally presided over the Sichuan oil and gas exploration and development. In March 1958, located in Nanchong East View, Guangan Wusheng, Suining British three wells exploded high oil flow, the vibration of the country, the oil industry minister Yu Qiuli general sits Nanchong, started the Sichuan oil battle. In order to speed up the development of Sichuan oil and natural gas resources, but also for the development of oil and gas industry in the southwest of the development of oil and gas industry technical cadres, the state decided to set up a second oil university, the site is located in the Sichuan oil battles headquarters in the northern city of Nanchong City.     In August 1958, the Ministry of Petroleum Industry first in Chengdu to recruit 643 first students, then appointed director of the Department of Infrastructure Secretary Ma Zai comrades led a group of young experts and cadres and workers went to Nanchong, planning the creation of the Institute. September 20, the Ministry of Petroleum Industry in conjunction with the Ministry of Education reported to the State Council agreed to formally approved the establishment of Sichuan Petroleum Institute. Since then, the school along with China's oil and gas industry construction and development, began the first school students after the school routine practice.
