About the university
Hebei GEO University (HGU) is situated in the city of Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province, China. Hebei, whose one-character abbreviation is “冀” (jì), is known as “The Land of Yan-Zhao”, for most of its area belonged to Zhao and Yan in the Warring States period. With an area of 188,800 square kilometers, Hebei is located between 113°04’E-119°53’E and 36°01’N-42°37’N in the north of China, embracing Beijing and Tianjin, with Bohai Sea to the east. Located in the southwest of Hebei Province and the Circum-Bohai Sea Economic Zone, Shijiazhuang, the provincial capital, is one of the major production areas of grain, vegetable, meat, egg, and fruit, identified as the country’s high-quality wheat production base and known as “The Barn of North China”. It is also called “The Cradle of New China”, for Chainman Mao directed the three significant battles in Pingshan County.
