About the university
North China Institute of Science and Technology (NCIST) is accountable to the State Administration of Work Safety. Based on the work of its predecessor, Beijing Coal Management Institute, it was reorganized as North China Mining College in 1993. In 1997 the College was assessed and evaluated by the former State Education Commission as one of the 27 demonstrative and key construction engineering colleges in China. By the year of 2002, another milestone was reached in the development of the college—an upgrading to an undergraduate institute, which was renamed as North China Institute of Science and Technology. In the year of 2011, NCIST was qualified to admit postgraduate students in the field of engineering. NCIST covers a total area of 800 mu, and has a further building area of 427,000 ㎡ . The facilities and equipment for teaching and research are currently valued at 160,000,000 yuan. NCIST has 3 key laboratories of the provincial and ministerial level and it owns a demonstration center of experimental teaching in Hebei province. Modern teaching technology is so widely applied in NCIST that it serves as a network base for the China Education and Research Network (CERNET). The NCIST library has a large collection of 1,080,000 books, and over 1,249 newspapers and periodicals (in both Chinese and other languages). Additionally, it has 1,350,000 digital books, together with 23 databases, thus has established a more complete literature supporting system.
