Chung Jen College of Nursing, Health Science and Management

St. Martin de Porres Hospital, a Catholic hospital, was founded in 1965 by the Sisters of Our Lady of China. Due to the lack of nursing resources for patients in the Yunlin and Chiayi regions, Sister Philom Lee invited Father Huai-Cheng Fang, who had just received an MA degree in education from the United States at the time, to plan the foundation of Chung-Jen. In the spring of 1971, the location of Chung-Jen was settled at Hung Mao Pi, Lu-Tso district, which is located in the Lan Tan Scenic Area, possessing 2.874 hectares of land. It is hoped that students will uphold the spirit of “the propagation of benevolence” to serve people. Therefore, Chung-Jen is taken as the name of the institution and started to recruit students in August. Along with the exaltation of medical treatment, the Board of Directors worked on restructuring the school to Five-Year College. Chung-Jen purchased nearly ten hectares of land as new campus from the Taiwanese Sugar Company in Da-Lin. In 2005, the school was approved to transform into a junior college by the Ministry of Education. Chung-Jen was able to recruit students in the Five-Year Junior College and the Two-Year Day and Night Senior College. Through the past forty years, Chung-Jen has developed from a Vocational High School of Nursing within one hundred students to a College over two thousand students. In 2006, Chung-Jen was approved to establish the Department of Food & Beverage Management. In 2008, the department of Cosmetics HealthCare in five-year junior College and the department of Baking in two–year Senior College were established. In August 2009, the department of Applied English and the department of Elder Care were established. With the support of the Board of Trustees and under the leadership of the presidents, we have been working hard in educating and encouraging students to practice their professions under the love of Jesus. Chung-Jen has educated nearly 10,000 graduates. A large percentage of our graduates obtains nursing license and performs eminently on the Civil Service Junior Examinations for technicians and paramedics. Graduates who have served in various medical organizations have devoted themselves to their patients throughout the country and have won great compliments from their service. These are all the achievements of the faculty who made the efforts. As a result, Chung-Jen has established its fine reputation. Today, Chung-Jen maintains its spirits of rigorousness in education, and gradually expands its scale.
