Established in 1999, Universidad de Ciencias Médicas (University of Medical Sciences) is a private higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the medium-sized city of San José (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), San Jose. Officially accredited/recognized by the Ministerio de Educación Pública, Costa Rica (Ministry of Public Education, Costa Rica), Universidad de Ciencias Médicas (UCIMED) is a coeducational higher education institution. Universidad de Ciencias Médicas (UCIMED) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. UCIMED also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.
