About the university
Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) is a dynamically growing higher education institution comprised of six faculties offering students the possibility of studying humanities, natural sciences, technology and art. It is one of the most prominent centres of research in the Czech Republic and, in many respects, also abroad. With about 9,700 students, TBU ranks among medium-sized Czech universities. TBU follows a longstanding tradition of the Faculty of Technology, which was founded in Zlín in 1969 and since then has educated hundreds of highly-qualified professionals. The University is named after the originator of the shoe industry in Zlín and a world-famous entrepreneur Tomáš Baťa (1876 – 1932).

Apply for TBU English-taught programs via our E-application (https://stag.utb.cz/portal/studium/uchazec/eprihlaska.html) usually from Oct/Nov to May. Upload required documents (CV, motivation letter, diplomas etc.) and pay the application fee. PhD applicants must secure a supervisor and topic before applying. Student visa
Non-EU degree students must apply for a long-term residence permit for study purposes at a designated Czech embassy in their home country or residence country. Required: application form, passport, proof of accommodation and funds, photos, medical insurance, and UTB enrolment confirmation. EU/EEA citizens do not need a visa. Requirements: https://ipc.gov.cz/.
Accommodation
UTB provides accommodation in university dormitories. Monthly prices range from CZK 4,200 to CZK 7,290 (approx. EUR 170–290) depending on room type. Admitted students must pay a refundable deposit of CZK 4,500 and book via our online system. Rooms and kitchenettes are fully equipped, with minor variations between buildings. Scholarships
Full-time PhD students receive a stipend of approx. CZK 25,000/month after arriving in Zlín, enrolling, and paying the tuition fee (part-time students are not eligible). Bachelor’s and Master’s students can apply for merit-based scholarships awarded by individual faculties for outstanding academic results. Contact your Faculty Coordinator for details.
