Engineering design is a fundamental operation in the industry and other entrepreneurship. Every quality part, product and machine requires a successful design process and application of design methods. Digitalisation enables application of more efficient design process and methods. Digital design improves collaboration between different engineering disciples and integrates multiple design phases like structural design and manufacturing. The module concentrates on the digital design processes in the industry, on the digital design methods and future possibilities. The Digital Design is one of the three specialisation tracks of the Master's Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering. The other specialisation tracks are Smart Systems and Digital Manufacturing. Today, Masters in engineering need theoretical and practical knowledge of design, regardless of whether they are designing small or large. Design is required in all areas of mechanical engineering, and contemporary digital tools make design exciting experience. Design has theoretical background, and digital tools bring design methods and processes to the edge of contemporary engineering work. The Digital Design specialisation track educates professionals with theoretical understanding and practical skills in designing, analyzing and optimizing products, structures and systems. The students will learn measurement, modelling, analysis, optimization and design methodology of structures, machines and systems. In addition to theoretical knowledge and practical skills of design in mechanical engineering, the Digital Design specialisation track supports the students with the development of suitable personal and social competences.
