About the university
The University of Bordeaux was newly established on the 1st of January 2014, following the merger of three universities: Université Bordeaux 1 Sciences et Technologies, Université Bordeaux Segalen and Université Montesquieu Bordeaux IV. It is now the third largest university in France (based on the number of students), welcoming more than 50, 000 students, of which almost 2, 000 are PhD students and 6,000 are foreign students. The University employs around 5, 600 staff members, of which nearly 3, 000 are academic and research staff.
