About the university
The University of Amiens1 or the University of Picardie-Jules-Verne is a French university founded in 1969, with its headquarters in Amiens but with several campuses Towns of the Hauts-de-France region.If the University of Picardy was created only in 1969-1971, university education dates back to 1804, when the School of Health was created. School of health is organized from March 1804 on the initiative of the Medical Society of Amiens and the Administrative Commission of the hospices of Amiens. The inauguration took place on the 22nd Germinal, year XII (April 12, 1804), and the courts began on the 15th Vendémiaire, year XIII (October 8, 1804). The School is located at the Hôtel-Dieu, the natural history laboratory and the botanical gardens. The school then essentially trains health officers. In 1808, the decree organizing the Imperial University made Amiens the seat of an academy. It must theoretically house a Faculty of Arts and a Faculty of Science. In fact, only the faculty of letters was born on May 1, 1810. It was, however, suppressed with a dozen others by a decision of the Royal Council of Public Instruction, confirmed by an ordinance of Louis XVIII on January 18, 18163.
