About the university
The establishment was founded in 1875, in the center of the city of Lyon, on the initiative of a group of Catholic laity, after the promulgation of the law of 12 July 1875 on the freedom of higher education. The UCLy is managed by the Association of Founders and Protectors of the Catholic Institute of Lyon, recognized as a public utility in 1942. It is then presided over by General Gilles Barrié. The establishment has been established during its history on several sites, in the city center of Lyon. The first historic site, the Hotel de Juys, located near the Place Bellecour, where the faculties of philosophy, letters and languages, sciences, theology and the rectorate, administration and central services were located: international relations, communication , University secretariat, human training, Polytechnic Institute of Lyon (consortium of four engineering schools associated with the Catholic University of Lyon). With a library of more than 210,000 books and 2,000 periodicals in philosophy, history, humanities, sciences and theology.
