About the university
Founded in 1865 as the "École centrale d'architecture", it is the oldest modern school of architecture in France. It was recognized of public utility from the year 1870. It originated in Eugène Viollet-le-Duc's desire to reform the teaching of the Imperial School of Fine Arts, in order to introduce specific courses in the architectural profession (both modern and medieval , Law, hygiene, etc.).
