About the university
The Institute of Advanced Study of National Defense (IHEDN), of its current name, settles in 1948 at the Military School. Despite its location, the IHEDN is not a military school, but a training institute that aims to "promote the spirit of national defense" 3. Its mission is to prepare senior civil servants, general and superior officers and persons particularly qualified from an economic or social point of view to hold the highest positions in the agencies responsible for the preparation and conduct of war. In 1979, following a decree, the Institute was placed under the authority of the Prime Minister4, responsible for National Defense under the Constitution, through the Secretary General of Defense and National Security (SGDSN). A new decree no. 97-817 of 5 September 1997 establishes the IHEDN as a public administrative entity (EPA) Following the White Paper on Defense and National Security published in 2008, the IHEDN is reorganizing into a "defense-foreign affairs" pole, diversifying and opening up to national and international levels. Its fields of competence are refocused on defense, foreign policy, defense and defense economics In January 2010, IHEDN merged with the Center for Advanced Armaments Studies (CHEAr), contributed to the training organized by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MAEE) and moved closer to the National Institute of Advanced Studies Security and Justice (INHESJ) 4.
