About the university
The premises of the university were designed and built by the team of architects Candilis, Josic, Woods. Georges Candilis had added it on request to the great architectural project of Toulouse of the 1960s : the Mirail . The University of Mirail is experiencing a hurried birth following the saturation of the former faculty of the city center and the movement of May 1968 . On that date it decided to divide the University of Toulouse into three: the faculty of law became the University of Toulouse I and took over the old buildings of the university, the faculty of letters became the University of Toulouse II, Called Le Mirail after his move, and the faculties of medicine and sciences became the university Toulouse III, called Paul Sabatier . In 1969, the fourth Toulouse university was created, the National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse , a federation of engineering schools. After several openings, Annexes (one located in a military barracks) in order to relieve the university's downtown, the University of Mirail gradually opens its doors in 1971 and in 1973 , the move is almost entirely carried out. The development of the university, which was planned for 11,000 students, went beyond the predictions of the time, with about 23,800 students. The major areas of the university are "Arts, Letters and Languages", "Human and Social Sciences", "Science, Technology and Health".
