The École Supérieure d'Art de Lorraine (ÉSAL), a public institution for cultural co-operation, was born from the regrouping of École de l'Image d'Epinal and the Ecole supérieure d'art in Metz Métropole in January 2011. Épinal and Metz have preserved the teaching sites, each headed by a site manager, the headquarters of the EPCC is in Metz, bringing together the general management and the administration. The ÉSAL, which is authorized by the Ministry of Culture to provide higher education courses in the European system (Bachelor, Master, PhD), awards higher education diplomas in the fields of art and communication in three years (National diploma of plastic arts) and in five years (national higher diploma of plastic expression). In January 2014, ÉSAL joined the Cefedem de Lorraine, Center for Teacher Education in Dance and Music: ÉSAL - Cefedem is currently one of the three national multisectoral schools under the tutelage of the Ministry of Culture and Of communication. As such, it issues national diplomas and education is organized in accordance with ministerial orders.
