University of the Gambia

he University of The Gambia was established by an Act of Parliament of the Gambia in March 1999. The enactment, which was a bold step to fulfill a long-standing desire of the people of The Gambia and to respond to several years of advocacy both within and outside the country for a university, ended years of indecision on the university question. The UTG accepted its first students starting with the School of Medicine & Allied Health Sciences School in 1999.Today, the University of Gambia(UTG) boost of over 4000 students from a modest start of 175 students in 2000.The UTG has experienced major transformation with enhanced quality and infrastructure from 2009 to Date. It is the hope of the nation and key to our human, socio-economic and political development. The UTG Graduates are successfully placed in major positions at all public, private, non-governmental organizations and international organizations and Universities abroad, increasingly assuming leadership positions across the country. Increasingly supplying the much needed human resources in all areas including Medicine, Law and the Sciences to sustain the human capital needs of the country and a place to optimize the potential of the youths as well as providing continuing education and education opportunities for adult learners.
