The Master of Public Policy (MPP) is a two-year, interdisciplinary, and practice-oriented graduate programme that equips future decision makers from around the world with the analytical tools and practical skills to design innovative and sustainable policies. Tailored for young professionals pursuing careers in public service, government, international organisations, consultancies, or the non-profit sector, the MPP provides the competencies needed to create evidence-based, inclusive, and context-sensitive policy solutions in a complex global environment. Conscious of the Western bias in policy education, the Brandt School’s MPP places special emphasis on the perspectives and agency of the Global South, fostering critical and locally informed policy analysis. Drawing on political science, economics, statistics, public administration, ethics, and law, the curriculum reflects the evolving needs of a diverse student body. The programme begins with a strong foundation in public policy, ethics, research design, and data analysis, before allowing students to customise their academic path through flexible electives and specialisations. Students choose two out of five specialisations: ● Global Public Policy (with emphasis on climate and energy) ● Sustainable and Inclusive Development ● Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management ● Peace and Conflict ● Digital Policy and Artificial Intelligence A defining feature of the MPP is its focus on practical experience. Students complete a professional internship between the second and third semesters and participate in a capstone project, working in teams to deliver pro bono consulting services to real-world policy clients such as government agencies, NGOs, and international organisations. These components, along with the Master’s thesis, ensure that graduates are well prepared to address policy challenges across sectors and regions. What sets the Brandt School apart is its international and interdisciplinary community. Home to around 100 students from 40 countries, the MPP offers a global classroom that encourages peer learning, intercultural exchange, and collaborative problem solving. Courses are taught by an international faculty and enriched by guest lectures and partnerships with institutions worldwide. Beyond academic excellence, the programme develops leadership, analytical, and professional skills essential for impactful careers. With a global alumni network active in over 80 countries—spanning international organisations, governments, think tanks, and social enterprises—the Brandt School’s MPP is more than a degree: it is a launchpad for meaningful, global public policy engagement.
