About the university
The University of Jewish Studies Heidelberg (HfJS) has existed since 1979. It is supported by the Central Council of Jews in Germany and financed by the Federal Government and the Länder. The HfJS is a state-recognized university. Nowhere else in Europe can Jewish studies of comparable width be studied. This allows the HfJS to impart to its Jewish and non-Jewish students the complexity and fascination of Judaism and to set scientific accents. With ten professorships and just as many assistants, the Heidelberg University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg is now the European center of excellence in its field. As a state-recognized university, she is the contact person for politics, media, churches and schools and since 2007 a member of the university rectors' conference. In her series of lectures "Heidelberger Hochschulreden", personalities of the public life, such as Chancellor Angela Merkel, With its scientific journal "Trumah" and its book series "Publications of the University of Jewish Studies", a large group of scientists, students and interested parties in Germany and abroad is addressed. An electronic newsletter regularly informs about the university life.
