About the university
The University of the Isthmus (UNIS) entered the Guatemalan educational field in 1996 with the support of the three decades of experience of the Women's Institute of Higher Studies (IFES), and was authorized by the Council of Private Higher Education - CEPS - in September 1997. On February 2, 1998, the University opened its doors with the founding faculties: Economic and Business Sciences, and in turn, Architecture and Design. In 2001, UNIS began operations with the Faculty of Law, in 2004 the Faculty of Communication was established, and in 2005 the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Engineering. The UNIS is a social initiative of a professional and civil nature. From its inception, it enjoys the pastoral assistance of the Opus Dei Prelature, an institution of the Catholic Church. All those who meet the conditions of academic and personal capacity, whatever their social origin, economic means, race or religion, are open to the University of the Isthmus, without any discrimination.
