About the university
We are the oldest and largest theological college and the priestly seminary of Hungary. Since 1700, it has been the training center for priests of the Archdiocese of Eger. In the time of Bishop István Telekessy the establishment of the priestly seminar took place. The theological studies began in 1704, but the foundation's foundation was not published until 1709. The construction work of the building was finished in the second part of the 18th century. The baroque chapel of the priestly seminary was decorated with frescoes in 1825. Theological studies have had an uninterrupted tradition since the foundation. Until 1951 only the priests of the archbishopric of Eger studied. Together with them, the priesthood candidates of the dioceses of Debrecen-Nyíregyháza and Vác are also trained here. From 1989, the students of Hungarian mother tongue from the neighboring countries will also come to study. At present the priesthood candidates of the Neocatecumenical movement are studying with us.
