About the university
Bangalore University, or BU, is a public state university that is located in Bengaluru in the state of Karnataka, India. Established in the year 1886, this university is one among the oldest universities of India. It is also one of the A-class universities of India. The university is a part of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and affiliated by University Grants Commission (UGC). This university is also fast approaching the prestigious 'Potential for Excellence', which is an honor reserved for the top 10 universities of India. Bangalore University is also accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) under the new grading system with a grade A in 2016. The university is also involved in research work, for the purpose of which it has entered into MoU (memorandum of agreement) with prestigious foreign and Indian universities, associations and organizations. Many departments of this university, have been ear-marked as `Centers of Excellence' by UGC.
