About the university
Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth is a specialised medical university comprising of four constituent colleges: Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences and Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College. SBV is accredited by the University Grants Commission as a 'Deemed University', under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956. The Constituent colleges are all recognised nationally and accredited by respective Medical, Dental and Nursing councils of India. The young University was founded by an visionary, eminent educationalist and philanthropist, Shri. M. K. Rajagopalan and is headed by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. K. R. Sethuraman, a well known Medical Educationalist and an Authority in Medical Education. The University is oriented towards cutting edge Research in Biomedicine. Research at SBV is led by Prof. Ananthakrishnan N, doyen of Surgery and a specialised 'Central Inter Disciplinary Research Facility' is equipped to carry out research in fields of Stem cells, Regenerative Medicine, Nano Medicine and Drug Design The Primary campus of SBV is at Pillayarkuppam, Pondicherry.
