About the university
MGR Government Film and Television Institute is an advanced Institute imparting film techniques and aesthetics of Film ,Television Production, Animation & Visual Effects and Allied Subjects and Film Appreciation. It is one of the three major institutes in India. The other two are Film and TV Institute of India, Pune, and Sathyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata. MGR Government Film and Television Institute is the only institute which offers four year degree courses. This premier Film Institute is run by the Government of Tamil Nadu and is functioning under the administrative control of the Director of Information and Public Relations.
