About the university
Stella Matutina College of Education under the Management of the Franciscan Sisters of the Presentation of Our Lady was established in July 1961. The College was taken over by the Presentation Congregation, Coimbatore in 1977. The aim was to improve the quality of school education in India, in general and Tamil Nadu in particular by producing quality women teachers. The college was affiliated to the University of Madras upto 2008. The College was recognized by UGC under section 2(f) and has received grant of 12(B) status in 1972. The College has been conferred Autonomous status in 2005. However, it continues to be an affiliated College of TamilNadu Teachers Education University from 2008. The College offers B.Ed,, M.Ed., M.Phil., and Ph.D., Degree courses. The vision of the founders of this institution and the meticulous efforts of the teaching and the non-teaching staff in transpiring the vision into reality had gained the college, ‘Five star’ status by NAAC in 2000, Autonomy in 2005, re-accreditation at Grade ‘A’ level in 2007 and extension of autonomous status in 2012.
