About the university
The Andhra Christian Theological College (ACTC) has emerged as a result of the study and recommendation by the Kretzmen’s Commission. Its perspective primarily is ecumenical and its purpose is to impart qualitative and relevant theological education providing opportunities for deeper ecumenical understanding and for richer experience and greater advantage of living and being together in an ecumenical atmosphere of the openness, sensitivity and mutual respect. The ACTC thus seeks to be a community in which ecumenical and mutual encounter will be natural and inevitable through common programs and shared Faculty, library and facilities. In respect to the ecumenical vision of the Churches in Andhra Pradesh and to equip the saints for the work of ministry for building up the body of Christ, the ACTC was founded in the year 1964 as a merger of three of its allied theological institutions, namely; the Andhra Lutheran Theological College, Rajahmundry; the Andhra United theological College, Dornakal and the Baptist Theological College, Kakinada. It was then enlarged by the inclusion of the Ramapatnam Baptist Theological College, Ramapatnam in 1967. Further in its due course, the other constituent Churches joined the college enriching its fellowship. The first home of the college was Rajahmundry until it moved to its present location Hyderabad the capital city of AP in 1973. The college is governed by the Board of Governors consisting of the representatives of the constituent churches as per the constitution.
