About the university
University of Garmian was first established by Dr. Barham Salah, the prime minister of the sixth KRG cabinet, at the 22nd anniversary of Anfal in 2010. The president and vice president of Garmian University started work on 20 February 2011. Untill 2010 the University had only two colleges as a part of University of Sulaimani. The two colleges were: College of Arts and Physical Education in Khanaqin and College of Education and Basic Education in Kalar. University of Garmian consists of three faculties; Humanity Sciences and Physical Education which includes seven departments in Khanaqin, Faculty of Education including 16 departments in Kalar, and Faculty of Agriculture which includes the department of animal resources in Kefri. In addition, the University offers master studies in Geography and Kurdish language. The number of the University students is about 5000 for this year.
