Academy of Fine Arts Ravenna

The academy has a long history and rich tradition in a city of culture like Ravenna. By the will of the Municipality of Ravenna it was founded in 1827 and its activity began two years later, with the solemn opening on November 26, 1829. The teaching of the mosaic in the Academy resumes the great tradition of the mosaic ravennate with the opening of the School of Mosaic directed by Giovanni Guerrini, professor of Decoration. With important teachers like Paolo Zampiga and Renato Signorini, the Ravenna mosaic resumes life between the 1920s and the 30s At the end of 1998, the Loggetta Lombardesca (where the Academy was based since 1971) took place in the complex of the former "Albe Steiner", not far from the Theodorean Mausoleum, where the Academy still resides. On 3 December 2001, with the permission of the Ministry of the University, the experimental project "Mosaic: technique and expressivity" was launched, structured on a three-year basis and a biennial specialization (3 + 2). Since then, the Academy of Ravenna has progressively characterized its training offering with the specificity of mongering language in the context of contemporary artistic experimentation, distinguishing itself in this respect both nationally and internationally.
