About the university
In October of 1711, Pope Clemente XI appointed the seal to the statutes of the Academy, which was founded in Bologna two years ago, in his honor assumed the name of Clementina. Structured on the model of the Royal Academy of Paris and the Roman Academy of Saint Luke, the Institution was also inspired by the previous artistic associations in Bologna, from the Accademia degli Incamminati, to the Ottenebrate Academy, to the free associations that have recently been gathered around Some patrons of the city. It is no coincidence that a noble idea of artistic knowledge based on the texts as well as on the exercise of the design was accompanied by the reverence for the magnificent five-sixteenth-century Bolognese art in the didactics concept, whose activity began in January 1710 in the palace of Fava , Will continue from 1712 in the Poggi palace. Here the Academy was placed next to the Institute of Science for the initiative of General Luigi Ferdinando Marsili, whom both institutions had tenaciously wanted, continuing to support them later. Around the cultural project - whose main artist was Gian Pietro Zanotti - all the most important artists of the city were shaken: among others Carlo Cignani, Marcantonio Franceschini, Giuseppe Mazza, Donato Creti, Giuseppe Maria Crespi, to whom will soon be added Ferdinando Bibiena . To the activity of the Academy both in the field of didactic and in the field of the protection of the historical heritage will be contributed by the best Bolognese artists, including Angelo and then Domenico Piò, Vittorio Bigari, Felice Torelli, Francesco Tadolini, Ubaldo and Gaetano Gandolfi, Jacopo Alessandro Calvi to the architect Angelo Venturoli, the engraver Francesco Rosaspina, the landscape artist Vincenzo Martinelli, the sculptor Giacomo Rossi who marked the last years of Clementina, in the sunset after the suppression of 1796.
