About the university
The Second University of Naples was organized in 1991 with the aim of reducing the burden of the overcrowded main University of Naples, known as the "Federico II". From the date of the official date of foundation, November 1, 1991, the Second University of Naples began its independent operation with nineteen thousand enrolled students and eight faculties located in five different territories of Caserta and Naples. At the moment, thirty thousand students attend 19 faculties of the VUN. The multi-campus organization of the University provides for two rector offices: one located in Naples and the other in the Royal Palace of Caserta. Famous historical buildings serve as a home for the School of the University, offices, centers and administrative offices. Many of these structures are also an archaeological heritage, such as the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Heritage in Santa Maria Capua Vetra, formerly the Roman Crypto-Portico, and the School of Medicine, located in the center of Old Naples.
