About the university
The Conservatory of Cosenza began its activity in 1970 and its founder Ms. Giuseppe Giacomantonio assumed the position of Director. At the birth of that Conservatory he had come up thanks to the tenacious work of a group of musicians from Cosenza who had lived in the 1960s at a lively musical Liceo and immediately populated by passionate students. The first group of teachers at the Conservatory was composed of nine masters: Arnaldo Graziosi, Edmondo Rossi, Claudio Capodieci, Gabriele Jaccarino, Letea Cifarelli, Roberto Cimadori, Luigi Lanzillotta, Salvatore Scarrico and Mario Stasi; The teachings imparted were seven: Main Piano, Violin, Cello, Clarinet, Theory and Solfeggio, Trumpet and Classical Guitar. That today, seven hundred students and one hundred and thirty teachers seem to be a further confirmation of the inaccessibility and unpredictability of cultural processes. The cultural and artistic role that our Institute wishes to play could not have been better than the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, which has hosted us since January 1999. It is a privilege to contribute to the revival of the historic center of the city.
