About the university
Nel 1802 la Municipalità di Bologna fece il progetto di un liceo musicale cittadino, da collocare nel convento di San Giacomo affiancato alla chiesa omonima: la nuova scuola avrebbe dovuto insegnare composizione, pianoforte, canto, violino, viola, violoncello, contrabbasso, oboe e corno inglese, mediante sei insegnanti tra i quali il compositore Stanislao Mattei, incaricato anche della gestione dell'archivio, il compositore Giovanni Callisto Zanotti destinato alla tastiera, il compositore e cantante Lorenzo Gibelli destinato al canto; le lezioni avrebbero avuto luogo nei locali di sette aule per tre giorni alla settimana, dalle nove di mattina all'una di pomeriggio. Il liceo filarmonico di Bologna, il primo nucleo di quello che sarebbe stato il conservatorio "Giovan Battista Martini", aprì il 3 dicembre 1804.
