About the university
The University of Gastronomic Sciences, founded in 2004 by the international non-profit association Slow Food in cooperation with the Italian regions of Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna, is a ministerially recognized, private non-profit institution. Its goal is to create an international research and education center for those working on renewing farming methods, protecting biodiversity, and building an organic relationship between gastronomy and agricultural science. The university forms gastronomes, new professional figures with multi-disciplinary skills and knowledge in the fields of science, culture, politics, economics and ecology of food, working to apply them to production, distribution and sustainable consumption. UNISG students, hailing from around the world, gain dynamic experiences in artisanal and industrial food production, thanks to complementary education in both sciences and humanities, sensory training, and hands-on learning during study trips across five continents. To date, more than 2500 students have studied or are studying at UNISG.

Students from all countries are eligible to apply, and there are no quotas based on citizenship. We encourage undergraduate candidates to possess an elementary understanding (A1/A2-level) of Italian prior to their arrival in Pollenzo, and will attend a language class for their first year of study. Similarly, in an effort to help acclimatize non-Italian Master students, the University provides 24 hours of Italian language instruction in the first few months of each one-year program.
Student visa
Non-EU students must obtain a visa in order to study in Italy, and therefore must complete an additional pre-enrollment process through the Italian consulate. Such students should book an appointment with the relevant consular representative even prior to their admission to the program in order to complete the pre-enrollment and visa request processes successfully and within the necessary time frame. Students will be assisted in obtaining their visa upon admission.
Accommodation
Housing is not included in the university fee. Therefore, students must find and finance their accommodation on their own. That said, students usually find a place to stay with relative ease in Bra as there is a big turn-over of rooms/apartments with leaving/graduating students.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available for all of our programs. Applicants must fulfill certain economic criteria in order to be eligible to apply. Scholarships are awarded based on the score applicants receive in the admissions process. For more information, please consult the "Scholarships & Financial Aid" section of each program on our website: www.unisg.it
