The Institute's history begins on January 12, 1874, when the Tyrolean Innsbruck Regional Diet, which had purchased the monastery and its goods, decided to engage in an agricultural school with an adjoining experimental station at San Michele all'Adige, each of which had to cooperate To the revival of agriculture in Tyrol. Shortly after the year 1000, in Europe and also in Tyrol, several monasteries were created and strengthened by various monastic orders, which also became centers of agricultural activity. In 1145 the Counts of Appiano donated their castle of San Michele to Adige to the Prince Bishop of Trento, who then passed it to the Augustinians. The latter transformed it into a monastery (now a museum) and remained until 1807. Many historical sources of the long period between the founding of the convent and its secularization have been destroyed with the looting of the archive, kept in the library; However, there are valuable testimonies such as the two wineries (one of the XII and the other of the 16th century), the refectory and the cloister .
