About the university
This college opened as the first Nursing College (Faculty of Nursing, Department of Nursing) in Mie Prefecture in 1997, to serve as a base for nursing education and research in the prefecture. Furthermore, in April 2001, we opened the first nursing-related Graduate School (master’s course in nursing studies) in Mie Prefecture, putting in place the foundation of an institution for higher nursing education. This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening, during which time we have produced more than 1,500 graduates as nurses, public health nurses and midwives. A nursing university conducts research activities to establish new knowledge about nursing science, transmits currently established knowledge of nursing science to students, while also exploring nursing phenomena that have not yet been elucidated. Although nursing phenomena can be pursued from various viewpoints, a faculty of nursing will explore nursing from the viewpoint of working nurses. Therefore, studying at a faculty of nursing corresponds with acquiring the skills necessary for a nursing career. Our college has achieved an educational environment where students learn not only the specialized knowledge and skills of nursing, but also how to understand people with diverse ideas and various backgrounds, a broad range of cultural knowledge to facilitate communication, an attitude to keenly pursue the kind of nursing that accords with the current situation and health needs of society, the ability to analyze accumulated information, the abilities required to build teams and to work in teams, etc.
