About the university
In 1950 a teacher's institute was opened in the city of Guryev. The Institute consisted of three departments (physico-mathematical, philological and natural-geographical) and five departments (pedagogy, physics and mathematics, the Russian language, geography and natural science, Marxism-Leninism). The admission of students was 150 people, 50 people per department with training in Kazakh and Russian. In 1955, the Teachers' Institute was reorganized into a pedagogical institute, which consisted of two faculties: philological and physico-mathematical. Admission to the first year was 250 students. In 1956 the correspondence form of training was opened. In 1994 the Pedagogical Institute was reorganized into the Atyrau University. In the same year, the university was given the name of a prominent figure, the scholar and encyclopedist Khalil Dosmukhamedov. The university successfully passed the certification and received the status of the first in Western Kazakhstan Atyrau regional university named after H. Dosmukhamedov
