About the university
1958 year. Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of August 5, No. 866 and the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR of August 30, No. 765, established the Ust-Kamenogorsk Road Construction Institute. DM Serikbaev was appointed the first rector of the UKSDI. The opening in the East Kazakhstan region of a technical university was objectively predetermined by the rapid development of the economy in the East of Kazakhstan and the acute need for engineering and technical personnel to provide it. To accommodate academic buildings, student hostels, sports grounds and residential buildings, the City Council of Deputies allocated 66 hectares of land on the banks of the Irtysh. In the first years, the university was located in the educational building of the construction technical college handed over to it, the administrative building of the design institute "Kazgiprotsvet", and the students lived in the hostel of Vostokmashzavod for 400 seats. In the specialties: industrial and civil construction, production of concrete and reinforced concrete products and structures, road construction machinery and equipment, roads and motor vehicles, 175 people were accepted, including 100 for full-time education and 75 for correspondence. The structure of the Institute included 8 departments: Marxism-Leninism, chemistry, higher mathematics, physics, descriptive geometry and graphics, theoretical mechanics, construction mechanics, geodesy, which employed 13 teachers, including 3 candidates of science, and 10 laboratory assistants. In connection with the organization in 1959 of the building and auto mechanics faculties, the newly opened departments of metal technology and special training, as well as the chair of structural mechanics, theoretical mechanics, higher mathematics, Marxism-Leninism, belonged to the automotive faculty, the rest entered the construction faculty.
