About the university
In 1980, the Jordan government represented by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities established Ammon College for Hospitality and Tourism Education, and ran it for two years in collaboration with The United Nations Development Program and the International Labor Organization. Later, this responsibility was delivered to the Jordan Ministry of Education and the college started with the Diploma program in Hotel Management. In 1996, an agreement was signed between the Jordanian government and the Jordanian Hospitality & Tourism Education Company to run Ammon College and the Training hotel. In 2004, under a new name Jordan Applied University College of Hospitality and Tourism Education. The college started with two programs; Bachelor Degree in Hospitality Management and in Tourism Management, as well as Certifications for short Training Programs in Hospitality, Tourism and Tour Guiding. A number of students graduated from the college, who work for a lot of national, Arab and international institutions, in both private and public sectors, since the year 1999/2000 and until 2012/2013 a number of students graduated as follows: (528) students with a Bachelor degree and (728) students with a Diploma degree in Hotel Management, (62) students with a Bachelor degree and (6) students with a Diploma degree in Tourism Management, and (107) students with a Training Diploma in Hotel Management and Culinary Arts. AAUC is the only institution in Jordan which offers a whole year Hospitality training in the USA, in cooperation with the American Hospitality Association (AHA). This program enables the students to spend a whole year working in one of the five star hotels or resorts in different locations in the USA. We sought to increase the number of applicants in quality and quantity. Our goal was not only to make the Hospitality and Tourism education a choice that can reach a larger population scale, but also to increase the number of trainees who work in these sectors, as most of the participants in the short and long courses already do, as the training diploma course is a one year course which targets high school graduates who couldn’t register in the ordinary (standard) programs. When they graduate from these training programs, they will be attracted even more to this sector. In addition, the tour guide course continues its wide success, as the number of students registering for this course is increasing every semester. Students graduating from this course are in demand by the travel and Tourism agencies for their high level of skills and manners, where the number of the tour guide course graduates since 1998 until the end of this year reached 701 students, and this is another example of the AAUC's contribution in supporting this sector. The college is now in process of opening a new specialization in the Bachelor program, called Event Management and Tourism Event, because of the great demand of this specialization in the local and international market. This program will be conducted in English, and will include theoretical and practical subjects. Also it received invitations from local universities to do joint programs together.
